The CorkScrew
Overview
Bringing The Corkscrew’s in-store experience online
The Corkscrew is a well-established, family-owned wine and spirits retailer located on Harry Street in Dublin city centre. With nearly two decades of experience, the business has built a strong reputation for offering a carefully curated selection of wines. More recently, they have expanded their offering to include premium spirits, alongside a range of specialist services.
Their move to a new flagship premises marked an important milestone and created the need for a digital presence that reflected the same level of quality and expertise.
The Brief
Following their relocation to a new, high-profile retail space, The Corkscrew needed a website that matched the character and standard of their physical store.
The existing platform no longer supported the evolving needs of the business. In particular, the client required:
- a more refined and brand-aligned online experience
- a scalable eCommerce platform to support growth
- improved usability for customers browsing and purchasing products
- a seamless transition from their existing Magento system
A key challenge was ensuring that this transition could take place without disrupting existing customers or business operations.
The Process
We began by assessing the existing platform and identifying the most appropriate long-term solution. Based on the client’s needs, we recommended a move to Shopify, providing a more flexible, scalable and user-friendly eCommerce environment. Working closely with the client, we developed a plan that addressed both the technical migration and the overall customer experience.
Platform Migration & Development
One of the most complex aspects of the project was the migration from Magento to Shopify. Given the volume and importance of the data involved, this phase required careful planning and execution to ensure nothing was lost or compromised. The migration included all core business data:
- products and categories
- inventory and stock levels
- customer accounts
- order history and invoices
- discount structures and coupons
- content pages
Our priority was to ensure a completely seamless transition for customers. To achieve this, we implemented a structured migration process that included:
- detailed data mapping between systems
- data cleansing and validation
- staged testing and verification
- maintaining relationships between datasets (e.g. linking customers to past orders)
This ensured that customers could log into the new site with full access to their history and account details, without any disruption.
User Experience & Design
Once the platform migration was complete, we focused on improving the overall user experience. Through UX and UI research, we identified opportunities to simplify the journey from product discovery to purchase. We then refined navigation and product categorisation, improved filtering and browsing experiences, streamlined the checkout process and introduced brand-aligned design templates.
The design approach ensured that the website reflected the premium nature of The Corkscrew’s offering, while remaining intuitive and easy to use.
The Result
The result is a modern eCommerce platform that aligns with the quality and character of The Corkscrew’s physical store.
- A seamless migration to Shopify with no disruption to customers
- A refined and brand-consistent online experience
- Improved usability across product browsing and checkout
- A scalable platform ready to support future growth
- Streamlined content and product management for the internal team
The new website provides a strong foundation for The Corkscrew’s continued growth both in-store and online. Early and expected outcomes include improved customer experience through clearer navigation and faster purchasing journeys, increased online engagement driven by a more premium and consistent brand presentation, greater operational efficiency with simplified product and content management, enhanced scalability to support expanding product ranges and services and stronger alignment between physical and digital brand experience.
Most importantly, the website now reflects the reputation and ambition of the business — supporting both its retail presence and its growing online offering.
