Tomkins
Overview
Founded in 1930 by Arthur Bellamy Tomkins, Tomkins has played a long-standing role in Ireland’s innovation and business landscape. The firm specialises in intellectual property, combining legal expertise, technical knowledge and strategic thinking to help clients protect and develop their ideas, from patents and trademarks to designs and broader business concepts.
With a legacy spanning nearly a century, Tomkins required a digital presence that would reflect both its heritage and its continued relevance in a modern, innovation-driven economy.
The Brief
Tomkins needed a website that could balance tradition with forward-thinking positioning. The existing platform did not fully communicate the depth of expertise within the firm, the breadth of services offered, the firm’s role in supporting innovation and creativity and the strength of its team and client relationships.
In addition to improving presentation and messaging, the website also needed to provide practical functionality for clients, including access to an online client portal, the ability to manage and pay accounts digitally and clear navigation of services and expertise.
There was also an opportunity to create a more engaging and distinctive digital identity — one that would differentiate Tomkins within a typically conservative sector.
The Process
We approached the project as a combination of brand storytelling, digital strategy and platform development. A central concept was introduced to bring the brand to life, by developing a rotating series that highlights individuals, ideas or achievements that represent excellence — aligning with Tomkins’ role in supporting innovation and protecting intellectual property.
This concept allows the website to evolve over time, reinforcing the firm’s connection to creativity, progress and achievement.
Alongside this, we focused on clearly communicating services and expertise, showcasing the people behind the firm, integrating practical tools for existing clients and creating a modern and engaging digital experience
Design & User Experience
The design balances professionalism with a more contemporary and engaging visual approach.
Key elements include:
- a clean, structured layout that supports clarity and navigation
- strong visual storytelling through the rotating “greatness” concept
- carefully considered typography and imagery
- clear pathways to services, team profiles and key information
Development & Integration
The platform was developed to combine presentation with functionality.
Key features include:
- a structured and easily navigable services section
- detailed team profiles to highlight expertise and experience
- integration with the Bellamy client portal, providing secure access for clients
- eCommerce functionality to enable online payment of accounts
- a flexible content system to support the evolving “greatness” series
These elements ensure the website supports both business development and day-to-day client interactions.
The Result
The result is a modern digital platform that reflects both the heritage and forward-thinking nature of the Tomkins brand.
We have developed a distinctive website that sets the firm apart within its sector and utilises an engaging content concept that evolves over time and sets the firm apart. We have integrated client tools that improve accessibility and convenience and provided a professional and cohesive digital experience.
The new platform strengthens Tomkins’ position as a trusted and innovative partner for businesses.
- Improved brand perception, balancing heritage with modern relevance
- Greater engagement through a more dynamic and content-led experience
- Enhanced client experience, with seamless access to accounts and services
- Increased efficiency, through integrated online payment and portal access
- A scalable platform, capable of evolving alongside the business
Most importantly, the website now reflects the firm’s core strength — helping clients protect and realise their ideas — in a way that is both clear and compelling.
